1st job:

This was an older GAS Kenmore Dryer manufactured by whirlpool, from the early 2000’s, this model was the best dryer built in the 20th/21st century in regards to reliability a long with its washer counterpart known as the direct drive washers, I have encountered these machines 20-30 years old and still going strong by the time it is necessary for the homeowners to call a repairman such as myself, if you have one keep as long as possible.

Anyways the dryer isn’t heating this could be several reasons, a dead thermal fuse, high limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, or the cut off switch.

Additionally you have the gas solenoids, the flame sensor, and the igniter itself…. If none of these parts are faulty you would then look at the dryer duct itself….

First thing I do is remove the back of the machine and test the Thermal fuse, thermostats and cut off switch via ohms, all are 0.2 ohms which means they are alive well, except the thermal fuse, the thermal fuse is dead.

I then disassemble the dryer and take a look at the solenoids, the igniter and the flame sensor…

The solenoids (2 of them) are supposed to be 560ish and 1200ish ohms respectively which they were. The igniter is between 50-300 ohms, it was at 70. The flame sensor is supposed to be 0.2 ohms it was at 50, it had too much resistance so it is not going to work. What the flame sensor does is sense the temperature of the igniter, once it is hot enough the sensor will shut off and then the gas coils will release the gas and will allow the dryer to ignite….

I only had a fuse on me this time and no flame sensor, it has to be ordered and then the job will be completed….

2nd Job:

Customer complains that the dishwasher isn’t draining, I walk in and hit the cancel button and it begins to drain, not sure what happened but whatever stopped it from draining dislodged itself. His garbage disposal also didn’t work, tried twisting the motor manually to get it going, completely dead he needs a new one.

3rd job:

Customer has a garbage disposal that wont drain and it overflows the water to the sink, the dishwasher won’t drain either as it is connected to the garbage disposal and will overflow the sink. This indicates a blockage of sorts.

Before I get crazy and start taking apart his piping…. I do a simple trick I picked up along the way.

I take a few scoops of ice and throw it down the drain and hit the disposal button, and run water while this is happening. I keep dumping scoops of ice as they cut up and eventually the drain clears itself up, the water stops overflowing and is going down the pipes.

I hit the drain button on the dishwasher and it is flowing smooth. Quick and easy job.
