5/13/21 Work Day
1st job:
I received a call in regards to a frigidaire side by side refrigerator that is not dispensing water or ice.
This was a fairly easy diagnostic, upon arrival the dispenser was dispensing water but at a low volume so I knew that the control board wasn’t faulty. I looked inside at the ice maker, no ice had formed, however upon testing the ice maker with my meter leads it was clear that the icemaker was not broken.
So I then test the water line for water volume, it is flowing freely which indicates the solenoids in the water inlet valve are faulty, and are not distributing water freely through the system. The part has been ordered and will be installed once it arrives.
2nd job:
Customer complains about dryer not spinning, I arrive at the customers house and remove the top and pull on the belt to see if the dryer belt is broken, the dryer belt is not broken and the control panel is operational so I know that the machine boards are not dead.
I disassemble the dryer for further investigation
Eventually I strip the dryer down completely to point where the drum and pulley system is exposed, it seems like the motor pulley was lose and wasn’t fully engaging the belt, I tightened it up and all was well, the dryer started spinning again.
3rd Job:
Customer is complaining of a water leak on the floor coming from the freezer, this is a simple job as it is simply a clogged defrost drain
To explain, the defrost drain is directly under the evaporator coil inside the freezer compartment of the refrigerator, the evaporator coil is responsible for providing the cool air that cools the freezer and refrigerator, the coils always have a thin sheet of ice on them and the evaporator fan above them blows and circulates cool air throughout the freezer and refrigerator, there is a heater underneath the coil that heats up the ice to prevent frost build up which then falls into the drain, and a thermostat that detects when it is time for the heater to come on or off….
Anyways occasionally the defrost drain gets clogged up, when it clogs all the ice that gets defrosted falls onto the freezer floor, in order to stop the leak the ice needs to be cleared from the floor, and to prevent further ice build up on the floor you need to clear out the drain
These are pictures of me taking apart the door to the fridge to access the drain, and the second picture is the ice that is causing the leak….
